Let’s just start with I should have known better.
I always knew that there had to be a good reason that I wasn’t getting as much done during my day as I hoped. I figured I was just having some challenges staying focused.
But then I started taking the Tranquilista Lifestyle e-Course and one of our assignments was to track our time (I’ve included a link to my Daily Accountability Tracker below). Well, not just track our day, but to also create a schedule for our ideal day. And in between, we were tasked with starting a morning ritual and writing/creating in our journals daily.
Well, let’s just start with my coming clean.
I have not been writing in my journal daily. In fact, if were to actually pull out the book and flip through a couple pages, you’d see my lame attempt at journaling. I have, on the other hand, been thinking a LOT about what we’ve been learning – basically, the lazy, non-creative way to process stuff. As a friend pointed out though, if you don’t get it written down, you’ll never get it done.
That said, I also still haven’t gotten around to creating any sort of ritual – morning or otherwise. But I’m slowly finally, starting to see how a daily ritual and routine could come in very, very handy. I mean, just from the obvious…what you think about, you attract. So if I spend a little time thinking about the life/business I want, and bask in some self-love and joy, well, that means that I can’t help but bring on more of what I’m asking for.
But I have realized something that I found to be fascinating.
I’ve always heard that an entrepreneur (and a solopreneur in particular) wears many hats. No surprise there. I mean of course we run our businesses and do our own books. But did you ever really sit down to actually figure out some of the actual tasks that you do?
Here’s what I came up with:
HOME: wife, friend, cleaning lady, maintenance crew, cook, laundress, liaison, dishwasher, menu planner, dog walker, pet groomer, secretary, event planner, personal shopper, real estate agent and all around Girl Friday.
WORK: treasurer, book keeper, web administrator, graphic designer (man am I horrible at this job), writer, mail room gal, receptionist, marketing department, personal shopper/Girl Friday, inventory management, event planner, team trainer, cleaning staff, PR consultant and who knows what else that hasn’t yet leaped out at me.
So now a decision needs to be made.
Now that I see my many tasks and hats that I wear and I see (more or less) how I spend my day, what am I going to do about it. What would you do about it?
Basically, some things will have to go. I can’t do it all. No one can…that expression “no man is an island” came about for a reason. I guess I’ll be sitting down over the next couple weeks and figuring out what I enjoy doing, what I can’t stand (can you say bookkeeping?), and what I can delegate. And then, it’s time to get those systems in place.
So what about you…what hats do you wear as a spouse, a parent, a business owner, etc.? And what are you will to cut down on?

I actually found this assignment rather empowering, once I looked at all the tasks I was in charge of and realized I had not fumbled any of them too terribly, it was a good feeling!
