Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.
Through the Tranquilista: Mastering the Art of Enlightened Work and Mindful Play book, the corresponding e-course and Tranquility du Jour podcasts, I was recently reintroduced to the concept of creating both a manifesto and a legacy to leave behind. More importantly, I was introduced to the fact that a mission statement doesn’t have to stodgy and boring.
Basically, a manifesto is a formal paper that explains what you or your company is all about and why you chose to be that way. It outlines the goals and the ethics of the company. Basically, your beliefs and the reason behind your beliefs. I think when most people are told that they need to write a manifesto (or a mission statement) for their business they get all tongue-tied and freeze up. It’s been known to be a huge hurtle to writing up a business plan.
But some companies, like lululemon choose to go about it in a more fun, playful way. Others, like soap company, IndigoWild/Zum has their lighthearted mantra or “words to lather by.”
Either way, I’ve found a new way of thinking about my life, my business and my legacy. What about you…how do you live your life and run your business?

i love this! “friends are more important than money” is a great one!
I know…that’s one helluva manifesto. I think the next time I pass by their store I’m going to pick up a copy to hang above my computer to keep me focused.
