The default settings on Wordpress can sometimes get in the way of your blogging. Well, not so much in the way of blogging itself, but in the way of getting the most out of your blogging experience.
One of the biggest reasons to blog, especially for business, is to develop and participate in a community. It’s challenging to get warm and fuzzy with your community when your blog isn’t set up to accept comments or requires your users to “join” your blog just to leave comments (there are better ways to get your reader’s contact information, trust me).
If you’re not getting any comments, take a couple of minutes and double-check your settings. Honestly, it won’t take more than a minute or two.
Go to your dashboard.
Go to the upper right hand corner to SETTINGS.
Once on the SETTINGS page, look in the top white bar for DISCUSSION (4th from the left) and click.
Once in DISCUSSION edit your settings as you wish and click save at the bottom. You can see my settings in the attached image.
The settings above will allow anyone to leave comments. All comments will be held in moderation first which means you will receive an email message letting you know that you have a comment and then you can manually approve the comments. This is great since you won’t have to worry about spam or troll-like messages going live without your approval, yet still welcomes commenters. These settings also allow for repeat commenters not to have to go through moderation once you’ve already approved a comment from them (assuming it doesn’t contain more than 2 links).
