Telling Fear to Take Off

It’s happened to all of us at one time or another.  We come up with this great idea and blamo, our Negative Nancy comes in to talk us out of it.  You’re not good enough.   It will never work.  Who would pay you for that?  What are you thinking?  You don’t know anything.  That gal just doesn’t shut up sometimes.  Thing is, we all need to acknowledge that we’re afraid, but do it anyway.

Tell Fear to Just Take Off!

I just recently went through a visit from Negative Nancy twice in the past couple of weeks.  Come to think of it, she’s been hanging around a lot longer than that, but this is when I finally noticed, ignored it and did it anyway.  The thing is, more often than not, we do know that deep down we can do it, that we’re good enough and that it will indeed work.  It’s just a matter of taking that first step and just doing it.

Just Do It!

Nike had it so right back in the late 80’s when they told us all to just do it.  I’ve found that once I trust in myself, ignore ol’ Negative Nancy and take that first step, things really start falling into place.  In fact, I’ve found that the louder and more obtrusive Negative Nancy gets, the more I should ignore those negative thoughts and just do it.  It’s typically times like that, where it really is the easiest, most natural, and most successful path.

Trust in Yourself

I’ve heard it said that there are no new ideas out there; that everything that’s been thought of has already been thought of.  But there are new ways to make old ideas even better.  Even if your idea might not sound original (or that Negative Nancy swears to you that it’s not original), know that it came to you for a reason, there’s something that you can do with that idea to reach someone that might not have otherwise gotten the message.  Trust in yourself that you’re doing the right thing.

What’s the worse that can happen?  You might fail.  So what.  Even then, think of how much you’ll have learned from the experience.  Think of who you might have met because of that leap.  Failure is not the worse thing that can happen to a person.  And fear is not something that we need to be afraid of.

Let’s face it, sometimes we just need to tell fear to take off and enjoy the ride!
